What are the limitations of Infra red?

When assessing the viability of utilising Infra red technology a number of factors must be addressed:

1. Is there direct line of sight?

As freespace optical systems operate point-to-point they require a clear line of sight. When assessing installations allowances must be made for any trees or obstructions etc., which may impair operation. Typical things to look for are young trees with considerable growth left or areas of land that may have construction work carried out.

2. Distance to be achieved

PAV manufacture equipment that has an operational distance of up to 4 Km's. At this range our Infra red equipment is cost effective when compared to microwave or leased lines.
