PAV laser safety compliance

Product Laser classifications:-

The following table shows the transmission distance, laser classification, wavelength and actual output power of the Sky Series products.

Viewing Distances:-

Using the beam divergence figure of 11mrad x 11mrad for both the 1Km and 2Km units and 11mrad x 3mrad for the 4Km units. The safe ocular distance to view the laser beam, with and without optical instruments, is shown in the table below.

At Short Ranges:-

The beam was also sampled at shortened ranges to test the AEL (Accessible Emission Level) and MPE (Maximum Permissible Exposure) rating.

Using the 1Km transmitter the system exceeded the AEL for class 1 by a factor of 3.5, meaning the product is safe to view with the naked eye at any range. However it will be dangerous to view with optical instruments unless further away than the 12m stated in table 2.

Using the 2Km transmitter the system exceeded the AEL for class 3A, by a factor of 2.9. The radiation does not exceed the MPE for 100 seconds at any range, meaning the product is safe to view with the naked eye at any range. However it will be dangerous to view with optical instruments unless further away than the 40m stated in table 2.

Using the 4Km transmitter the system exceeded the MPE for 100 seconds by a factor 3.6 and the AEL for class 1 by a factor of 35. The beam should not be viewed with the naked eye unless further away than the 6m stated in table 2, and will be dangerous to view with optical instruments unless further away than the 65m stated in table 2.

Failure Level: -

		This laser hazard-warning label is placed on all systems.
		For the 1Km systems this label will state it is a Class 3A laser product, for the 2Km and 4Km systems it states it is a Class 3B laser products.
